The Starkville Academy Patrons Association is headed West for its second annual Rodeo Round-Up and Cow Patty Splat Saturday.
Scheduled from 4-8 p.m. at the Mississippi Horse Park, Facility Director Bricklee Miller said SAPA promises to bring even more excitement to the organization’s annual event.
“It’s their back-to-school round-up, and it is definitely catered to the children,” Miller said. “There will be all kinds of fun things to do for parents and kids.”
Open to the public, Miller said $10 wristbands will be sold for children wishing to participate in the variety of activities SAPA has planned.
“The money will be going to SAPA to fund certain projects at Starkville Academy,” she said. “They’ll have something for everyone, and things will be catered to each age division.
Beginning with the Country Smile Photo Booth, the Rodeo Round-Up will feature: Western Quest scavenger hunt, Wild West Hole in One, Kowboy Karaoke, Saturday Night Bath dunking booth, Rootin’-Tootin’ Spin and Win and Wild West Bingo.
In a statement released by SAPA, Rodeo chair Robin Holliday said last year’s event was a huge success and the organization is enthusiastic about events added to this year’s line up.
“New items this year include the Poor House Jail and the Rolling Video Game Truck,” Holliday said. “Sixteen children can enter and play on the four large screen TVs and compete for the ultimate gaming experience.”
Miller said older students and parents will also have activities and prizes catered for their respective age groups.
“There’s going to be a disco dancing room upstairs for the older students. which is a lot of fun for them,” she said. “For the parents, we’ll crown the Carpool King and Queen, and whoever wins gets to drive to the front of the line at the school for pick up.”
Food and concessions will be provided by Bulldog Deli (The Hatfields), and McAlister’s (The McCoys) will supply sweet tea for the event.
A silent auction will be held including items such as personalized pottery by grade school children sponsored by Jilly Bean’s Pail of Paint, a football helmet autographed by Dan Mullen, cowbells signed by the MSU coaches and other signed memorabilia.
Miller said she was very satisfied with the turnout last year, and has enjoyed working with SAPA.
“I personally think that SAPA has done an awesome job of planning such an event to include the entire family,” she said. “It will be a jammed pack four hours of fun that I personally have been looking forward to since last year’s event.”
