Mr. Stacy Pete Givens, 94, of Mt. Vernon, Ind., passed into his next life on Aug. 18, 2012.

Schneider Funeral Home of Mt. Vernon was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Givens, the only son of Myrtle Heath Givens and Charles "Pete" Givens and the only grandson of Stacey Ellen Shryock Givens and William Givens, was a descendant of one of Posey County's pioneer families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 56 years, Carol Watson Givens; sister, Lois Givens Miller; step-brothers, Eddie O'Donnell and Paul O'Donnell; and grandson, Steven Cox.

Survivors include children, Judith Givens Housley (Warren) of Starkville, Carolyn Givens Thompson (Gene) of Wadesville, Ind., Nancy Givens Butler and Danny J. Givens (Monika) of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Blain Newman (Sarah), Gina Newman, Stacey Housley Simpson (Scott), Julia Housley Waterman (Daniel), Jeffrey Givens (Courtney) and Lisa Givens Powers (Jimmi); a host of nieces and nephews; great-grandchildren include Marshall and Micah Powers, Jack, Lydia, Clara and Mary Grace Waterman, Isaac, Isaiah, Nolen and Lily Givens and step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Mary Simpson and Gatlin Harris.

Mr. Givens retired from Inland Container Corporation of Evansville, Ind. after 38 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Vernon General Baptist Church, having served as a trustee, church bus driver, sponsor of the youth group and member of the mission team which over a period of years constructed the buildings for Faith Home Orphanage in Jamaica and Honduras.

His bowling scores were legendary and took him to the Indiana state games and Senior Olympics on several occasions. For many years, he volunteered as a truck driver and mechanic at Mt. Vernon Fire and Rescue. Stacy loved helping people and could operate, maintain and repair anything with movable parts.

He was generous with his time, a friend to all, a faithful family man and model of making the most of the long life God gave him.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
