MABEN – Homecoming was not the only celebration West Oktibbeha fans enjoyed on Friday.

On the field, the Timberwolves picked up their third straight double-digit victory with a 46-24 win over Class A, Region 3, District 4 foe Sebastopol.

The scoring for the Timberwolves started right away as Von Smith connected on a 65-yard touchdown pass to Lavante Tate on a fade.

Tiberias Lampkin finished the play with a 3-yard run to pick up the two-point conversion. Smith then ran for 10 yards to put the Timberwolves up 15-0. Lampkin again completed the play with a two-point conversion to bring the score to 16-0. Smith then connected with Kelsey Jefferson to close the first quarter with a score of 22-0.

Sebastopol picked up its first score as Colton Tharp capped a 99-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. Tharp’s touchdown provided the only points of the second half, as at halftime the score stood at 22-8.

Coming out of halftime, Johnny Chambers recovered a Bobcat fumble to score the Timberwolves fourth touchdown of the night. Colton Tharp then picked up the second Bobcat touchdown as he completed a 46-yard halfback pass to Eric Burkes for the score.

West Oktibbeha answered Sebastopol’s score with a 5-yard run by Smith to bring the score 34-16. The Bobcats answered with Cody Shaw connecting on a 38-yard pass to Luther Burkes. Lampkin immediately followed with the Timberwolves scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run. Smith closed Friday night’s scoring as he returned an interception 65 yards.

Smith led the West Oktibbeha charge as he was 9-for-18 for the night for 233 yards and two touchdowns. Smith contributed another 44 yards and two touchdown rushing, while defensively he posted one touchdown after a 65-yard interception return.

Also contributing offensively for the Timberwolves were Tate, who posted 101 receiving yards and one touchdown, and Lampkin who provided 24 rushes for 205 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Chambers had a 10-yard fumble recovery which provided six points for West Oktibbeha.

Friday night’s win places the Timberwolves one step closer to their goal of a region championship as they improved to 3-0, but with five regional games still ahead, they know the hard work never stops.

West Oktibbeha, which stands 5-1 overall, returns to action next Friday as it travels south to face the Ethel Tigers.
