William Pope Sr.

William Joiner Pope Sr., 81, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at OCH Regional Medical Center. 

A full military graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at Center Grove Cemetery with Rev. Joel Hudson officiating.
Visitation will be held 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at Center Grove Baptist Church.
Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements.

Pope was born Oct. 3, 1930 in Helena, Ark. to Isham C. Pope and Ruby Joiner Pope. 

He is a graduate of Maben High School and Mississippi State University. He was married to the late Muhnyene Green originally from Sturgis.
Mr. Pope retired with 27 years of service in the United State Army. He later operated Pope's Grocery in Center Grove. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by sons, William Joiner Pope Jr. ( Eleana) of Jackson and Michael Greene Pope of Starkville; daughter Stephanie Pope Kirk (Ken) of Starkville; sister, Martha Stillman, Germantown, Tenn.; grandson Ronnie Clardy (Samantha McCain) and their two sons Cain and Cayden, Eupora; step-granddaughter, Tara Cardinal of Aurora, Colo.;and five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife a brother, James C. Pope Sr.
