Dr. Carlton Lanier Carpenter Jr., 82, a native of Starkville and resident of Baton Rouge, La., died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at Trinity Episcopal Church.
A private burial followed at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
Visitation was held 9-11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Rabenhorst Funeral Homes in Baton Rouge, La. was in charge of arrangements.
Carlton was born Aug. 11, 1930 to Ruth DeLoach Carpenter and Carlton Lanier Carpenter. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and Tulane School of Medicine. He served in the United States Air Force for four years as a Captain and then returned to New Orleans, La. to do a residency in Dermatology. In 1962, he moved to Baton Rouge, La. and joined the Dermatology practice of Dr. Henry Jolly, and he continued to practice here for forty years.
Dr. Carpenter was active in many professional and community organizations. He was on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology and was a member of the American Dermatological Association. He served as President of the Society for Dermatological Surgery, the Louisiana Dermatological Society and the East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society.
He was an Associate Professor of Dermatology for LSU Medical School and for Tulane Medical School for many years. Dr. Carpenter was a Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Episcopal High School, and of the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation. He sat on the Board of Directors of Citizens Savings and Loan. He was also a member of the Baton Rouge Country Club and of the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge.
He is survived by sons, William Moss Carpenter of Franklinton, La. and Michael Edward Carpenter and his wife, Winifred Park Carpenter, and their daughter, Anabelle Colette, of Hong Kong; daughter, Laura Elisabeth Carpenter Mason and her husband, Steven Jude Mason Jr. and their three children, Lanier Elisabeth, Steven Jude III and Adelaide Elise of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Roy Edward Carpenter, his wife Lucy, and their sons, Roy Jr. and Scott, and daughter, Cheri Savage of Pelham, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Carlton Lanier Carpenter III.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to special caregivers Josie Cushenberry, Mary Belin, and Katherine Jones, all of whom provided exceptional care during his illness.
