Wallace Gray Jr., 83, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at his home.Â
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Brooksville Baptist Church with Brother Clifton Curtis and Brother Jay Spiller officiating.
Burial followed by Brooksville Cemetery.
Visitation was held 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Brooksville Baptist Church.
Cockrell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He was born Sept. 20, 1929 , the son of the late William Wallace Gray Sr. and Eloise Calmes Gray. He was a graduate of Brooksville High School and East Mississippi Community College and attended Mississippi State University.          Â
He was an entrepreneur who owned and operated several businesses, including a grocery store and a dry cleaners. He was a member of the Brooksville Baptist Church and most of his life was devoted to public service where he served terms as a member of the Noxubee County School Board, Brooksville Board of Aldermen and finally retired after serving twelve years as Noxubee County Circuit Clerk. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.
He is survived by his daughters, Virginia Gray Arrington (Bill) and Madelyn E. Gray; brother, Dr. Marion H. Gray (Mary Ann); grandchildren, Tiffany McDavid and William Thornhill; sisters-in-law, Winona S. Colbert and Ann B. Gray; and long-time caregiver, Josephine Green.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann Colbert; brother, Warren C. Gray; brother- in-law, Jack Colbert; and grandson, Taylor McDavid.
