Ridgeland has dangerous threats

The Ridgeland Titans have many options in the playbook and with personnel.

After playing the power I offense that Provine presented last week, the Starkville Yellowjackets know they have to be ready for anythng when the Titans come to down for Class 5A, Regin 2, District 6 action on Friday. Kickoff for the first October game is set for 7 p.m.

"They will try to run and throw the football," Starkville defensive coordinator Brooks Oakley said. "They've got a good quarterback who is a running threat and they have two of their receivers back from last year so they are definitely a big threat."

Ridgeland, which has records of 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the division, have three receivers with at least seven catches this season. Bryce Williams has 11 catches for 133 yards, while Ben Culpepper adds 142 yards on seven catches and Xavier Marion has 99 yards on seven carries.

As Oakley indicates, Titan quarterback Parker Lohman can run or throw. He has completed 35 of 69 pass attempts for 484 yards with four touchdowns, and has carried 63 times for 436 yards with six more scores.

Ridgeland brings a three-game winning streak into the matchup by defeating Lanier 48-6, Canton 27-0 and Kosciusko 31-13. The Titans started the season with a 34-20 victory against Mendenhall, then dropped the next two against Clinton 23-3 and Terry 29-14.

SA to see pass-happy Parklane

For the second week in-a-row, the Starkville Academy Volunteers will be on the road and playing a pass-happy offense.

The Volunteers (4-3, 2-1) travel to take on Parklane (6-1, 2-0) Friday at 7 p.m.

"They have always been a real good defensive team," SA head coach Jeff Terrill said. "This year they've gone to the spread-type offense. They are doing a very good job of it. They are very sound in all phases of the game."

In last year's meeting in Starkville, the Vols took a 7-5 decision. This year it looks like the offenses will have a better go of it.

"They're a Division I program that has only one loss," Terrill said. "It will be a real challenge for us."
