SA defeated by Parklane 35-12 on road

October 6, 2012

MCCOMB – It wasn't the type of night on the road the Starkville Academy Volunteers wanted to have during a 35-12 loss to Parklane Academy on Friday.

Parklane jumped out to a 14-3 halftime advantage and never took its foot off the gas pedal as it generated 401 yards of total offense against SA.

Joseph Clark scored on an 11-yard run for Parklane to turn a 7-0 lead into 14-0 in the second quarter.
The Volunteers cut into the lead in the second quarter with a 31-yard field goal by Johnathon Burton.

After another Burton field goal of 25 yards in the third quarter, Clark hauled in a 59-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 21-6 with 5:53 left in the third quarter.

Parklane scored once again to extend the margin to 28-6, but Starkville Academy put up a score in the fourth quarter when quarterback Drew Pellum found Colby Runnels for a 38-yard pass. The two-point conversion run failed and the Vols had their final points.

Parklane put the game away with a touchdown with less than a minute to play in the game.

Starkville Academy gained 159 yards on the ground as a team, which was split evenly between mainly three players. Pellum had 44 yards on eight carries, while Zach Slaughter added 37 yards on four attempts and Runnels chipped in 30 yards on nine carries.

Pellum completed 9 of 18 pass attempts for 125 yards and the touchdown to Runnels. Runnels had two catches for 59 yards and Hunter Bolin added 56 yards on four catches.

Stephen Robertson, Johnathon Black and Drew Harrell were credited for having good defensive play for the Vols.

Starkville Academy, which fell to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in Class AAA-District 2, hosts Winston Academy next week for homecoming.
