Mississippi Speaker of the House Phillip Gunn visits the Golden Triangle today as part of his four-day “Mississippi Solutions — An Ideas Tour.”
Gunn will host an hour and 15 minute town hall forum Today at the Columbus City Hall for citizens to discuss a wide variety of issues. A Gunn spokesperson in Jackson said previous forums included discussions on the state’s economy, educational systems and 16th section land policies. The tour is a non-partisan meeting for all state legislators and citizens.
“After the (legislative) session ended, I knew I wanted to hear from people around the state about their ideas they have for the future of Mississippi,” Gunn said in a release. “We thought the best way to do this would be to set out on and ideas tour where we could hear from the public about topics they wanted to see addressed in future sessions.”
The Columbus forum marks Gunn’s second forum of the day — a previous session is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Tupelo’s City Hall — and fifth overall tour stop since Monday. Another session is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Meridian’s City Hall. Gunn will conclude the tour with a 9 a.m. Thursday stop at the Cultural Center in Hattiesburg, a 1:30 p.m. Thursday visit at Biloxi’s City Hall and a 10 a.m. Friday forum at the Brookhaven’s State Bank and Trust.
Each meeting is slated for 75 minutes.
