Lady Jackets finish Class 5A, Region 2 with unbeaten volleyball mark

JACKSON – The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets locked up an undefeated regular season in Class 5A, Region 2 play and clinched a first-round home playoff game with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-9, 25-13) victory at Jackson Callaway Tuesday night.

Starkville finished the regular season with records of 19-11 overall and 8-0 in the region. The Lady Jackets did not drop a set in region matches.
April Reese had nine kills to lead SHS, while Jamiyah Covington and Stacie Young added four each, Michaela Mills had three and Khris Carr contributed two.

Mills had 19 assists, six service aces and three digs for the Lady Jackets. Reese contributed 12 digs and four aces. Carr added six digs, a solo block and block assist. Young chipped in solo block and block assist.

Also for SHS, Covington had two aces and four digs, Hannah Knox added two aces, Courtney Wilson had nine digs, Vicky Vo had five digs, and Vivian Barksdale chipped in four digs.

The Lady Jackets host the first round of the Class 5A playoffs at 1 p.m. Saturday. They face the winner of Thursday's match between Center Hill and Ridgeland.
