Starkville High School head football coach Jamie Mitchell takes pride in meeting any challenge with dedication and hard work.

There has been more than usual on Mitchell's plate this season.

Along with trying to mold the Yellowjackets into state championship contenders in Class 5A, Mitchell also has the responsibility of getting ready to coach in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game.

Mitchell learned back in the spring that he would be on the Mississippi staff as offensive coordinator for the game that takes place in Montgomery, Ala., on Dec. 15.

He considers it a great honor for himself and the city of Starkville, but a tremendous amount of work has come from it.

"There has been some extra film work that I've had to do in watching players, getting ready for that and for our (season), but it's been a good problem," Mitchell said.

Mitchell was also on the Mississippi staff in 2002 and he was also the head coach for the North in the Bernard Blackwell All-Star Classic two years ago.

After appearing in the Class 5A State championship game last season, the Jackets have enjoyed another good season to this point with records of 4-3 overall and 3-0 in Class 5A, Region 2, District 6.

The Mississippi-Alabama roster will be released next Wednesday and the staff has been meeting to make sure the right players are chosen to represent the state.

"We've met about six times just to make sure we don't miss any of them," Mitchell said. "It's quite a procedure to go through when you have so many kids to look at. We've done our diligence and have worked as hard as anybody. Whether we get the right players picked, you are not going to make everybody happy. We feel pretty good that we've got our hands on the right ones."
