Charles Campanella

BIG SPRING, TEXAS — Mr. Charles Roy “Chuck” Campanella, 68, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012 at his home in Big Spring, Texas.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at Texas State National Cemetery in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at the Myers and Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Campanella was born on Nov. 23, 1943.

He graduated from Midland High School in 1961. He enlisted in the Army in 1966 and was stationed at Ft. Sill, Okla. He was first assigned to Typist Clerk. He continued to study and train until he was awarded the rank as Commanding Officer with the Charlie Company, First Battalion 12th Airborne Division during the combat operation in the Republic of Vietnam of the United States Army. He earned several medals including two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Star medals, a Silver Star and three Air Medals.

After the Army, he moved to Mississippi in 1978 and enjoyed a career as an over the road Truck Driver. He moved back to his home state of Texas in 1991 and received his Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Midland College in 1996. This was his profession until he retired in 2001.

He leaves behind six children, Scott Campanella of Mathiston, Sande Shuffield of Mathiston, Kristen Campanella of Starkville, Renea Campanella of Englewood, Colo., Katie C. Mann (Jerry) of Coahoma, Texas and Bonnie Burchett (Drew) Paducah, Ky. He also has nine grandchildren, Michael Campanella, Shelby Campanella, Chace Gilliland, Saige Gilliland, Tanner Shuffield, Delta Tate, Braxton Richters, Jasmine Goniwicha, Eric Burchett; and one great-grandson, Mason Campanella. He also left behind two cats, Sissy and Prince, and two dogs, Raider and Poco.

He is preceded in his death by both of his parents, Charles Peter and Mary Campanella of Midland, Texas and his paternal grandparents Liborio and Sebastiana Campanella, originally from Sicily, Italy but later settled in Boston, Mass. and maternal grandparents, Wallace and Eva Roy of Midland, Texas.
