The Hinds Community College women's soccer team has another opportunity for success in the postseason Saturday.
Starkville native Morgan Miller is right in the middle of it.
The former Starkville High School player has contributed to a team that has a 12-3 record at this point of the season. The Lady Eagles host Holmes in the final regular season match tonight.
"We've had a really good season with only three losses," Miller said. "(We) are really excited about the state tournament and have high hopes to do well."
This is the season season for Miller at Hinds and coach Mercille Mclendon depends on her experience as a sophomore.
"All sophomores are considered leaders and we definitely think that," Mclendon said. "She's not the captain, but we only have six sophomores and I think they all take on a leadership aspect."
Miller plays center-midfield for the Lady Eagles and just tries to take care of business when she's on the field.
In leading by example, Miller hopes to show the younger members of the squad the correct way to go about their business.
"We have a new team this year and it's different," Miller said. "I'm just making sure everyone plays their game. It's all about how you play and it rubs off on everyone. If you are ready to play, it shows on the field."
Miller is exploring her opportunities after junior college and has talked with a couple of schools about playing soccer.
For now, the focus for Miller and Hinds CC will be to finish up the regular season strong and take that momentum into the state tournament on Saturday.
The postseason opponent will be determined after today's action, but Mclendon hopes Miller and the Lady Eagles are ready.
"We hope (Miller) can contribute a lot to us," Mclendon said.View more articles in:
