Starkville High School received word on Thursday that it would once again be a part of the 6A classification, beginning with the 2012-13 school year.
For the last two years, the Yellowjackets have competed athletically in Class 5A and won the All-Sports trophy for that class last year.
Starkville's enrollment of 1,192 caused a move back to the highest class in the Mississippi High School Activities Association.
"We've been kind of up and down in that classification deal, but we anxiously await what our division looks like," SHS football coach Jamie Mitchell said Thursday night.
Also making the jump to 6A with the Jackets are Hernando and current Class 5A, Region 1 opponent Provine.
"We feel comfortable we can compete there," Mitchell said about 6A. "You probably get better games throughout the year, but still if you get to Jackson you are going to have to beat good teams. It's not too big of a deal with us. We feel like we can hold our own."
