WEST POINT - The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers claimed a 58-52 victory over the Oak Hill Lady Raiders in what turned out to be a closely-contested game.
In the end, Starkville Academy outscored the Lady Raiders by six to continue its perfect season. The Lady Vols improved to 7-0.
From the very second the game started, Starkville Academy put its foot on the gas and never let up. Outscoring their opponent by 16, at the end of one the Lady Vols held a 22-6 lead.
The second quarter of play was tighter than the first as the teamâ€™s scoring in the frame was only separated by four. As the teams headed to the locker rooms, Starkville Academy was on top 37-17.
Oak Hill made up some ground during the third period as it outscored the Lady Vols 20-16, closing the gap to 53-37 heading into the final 8 minutes of play.
In the fourth and final period, the Lady Raiders once again out-scored Starkville Academy, however Oak Hillâ€™s late efforts were not enough to make up for the first half deficit. The Lady Raiders outscored the Lady Vols 35-21 in the second half.
Maggie Proffitt and Nora Kathryn Carroll had 16 points each to lead SA, followed by Hannah Huddleston and Anna Lea Little who scored 12 and eight points, respectively.
Starkville Academy will next travel to Madison to take part in a tournament hosted by Madison-Ridgeland Academy. The Lady Vols first game of the tournament will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

WEST POINT - The Volunteers enjoyed a 20-6 run in the third quarter to open up a tight game and picked up their first win of the season.
Starkville Academy (1-4) expanded on a 15-13 halftime lead.
Carnail Minor led the Vols with 28 points with most of those coming in the second half.
"Carnail really turned it on after halftime," SA boys coach Mark Alexander said.
