The most wonderful time of the year is getting an early showcase as the Starkville Civic League presents its annual Christmas Tour of Homes Sunday, Dec. 2 from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Fundraiser chair Charlotte Smith said tickets for the event are $20 which includes a tour of four homes around Starkville featuring: Happy and Babs Deas, Terry and Brenda Jones, Tommy and Katherine Prentice and Lynn Spruill.

Smith said the tour serves as the organization's main fundraiser with proceeds going toward its annual $1,500 scholarship.

"We give the scholarship to a student that goes to any school in Oktibbeha County, including the Starkville city schools, who plan on attending a Mississippi college," she said. "The club adopts and donates money and time to one kindergarten class each year and places a book in the Starkville Library in the name of individuals who make presentations at the club's monthly meetings."

Brenda Jones said she loves this beautiful time of year and is excited about not only showcasing her home, but seeing how other homes decorated as well.

"If you haven't decorated by then, you can get some ideas and start now," she said. "I just love the Christmas season and all the glitter and glamour that goes with it."

Kathy Prentice said she is drawn to the many Christmas traditions in her life, and is looking forward to showcasing her beautiful arrangements and sentimental items.

"Decorating for Christmas is one of the things that I enjoy and look forward to every year," she said. "When you pull things out of a box, it's just like seeing an old friend again, and it brings back memories and wonderful times that you cherish."

Smith said a special event will take place before the official tour start time as Mayor Parker Wiseman will light a Christmas tree at the Starkville Public Library at 1:15 p.m. Sunday as the Palmer Home Children's Choir serenades guests.

"We should have people buying ticket there for the tour at the same time," she said. "We will be serving refreshments as well."
The Starkville Civic League's 2012 Christmas Tour of Homes begins Sunday, Dec. 2 at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from Civic League members or at the Greater Starkville Development Partnership.
