Mr. Jack W. Lemmons of Meridian died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at Central United Methodist Church in Meridian with Dr. Bob Rambo, Rev. Jimmy Harrison and Jim Wall officiating
Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Starkville.
Visitation will be held 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at Central United Methodist Church in Meridian prior to services.
Stephens Funeral Home of Meridian is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lemmons, a U.S. Naval veteran of WWII, served on the destroyer USS Metcalf in the Pacific Theatre. At the age of 17, Jack felt his call of duty soon after the historic attack on Pearl Harbor. After proudly serving his country, he graduated high school and enrolled in college at Mississippi State University where he obtained his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.
In college, Jack was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and the Professional Engineers Association, activities which led him into a long standing 37-year career with BellSouth where he worked as an engineer until retirement.
Mr. Lemmons, a committed community member, volunteered with several service and civic organizations devoting much of his time to Meals on Wheels, The Telephone Pioneers and Lauderdale Habitat for Humanity as well as his church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Martha Lemmons; sons, Steve Lemmons (Jan) and Bob Lemmons (Peggy); sister, Jere Gale (Ed); four grandchildren, Stephan Lemmons, Adam Lemmons, Laura Lemmons and Lamar Hickman; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward B. and Jeanette Lemmons; and sister, Jeanette Dennis.
Pall Bearers will be John Robert Gale, Bronson Gale, David Rosenbaum, Courtney Cunningham, Bill Buchanan and C.D. Smith.
Honorary bearers include representatives of the Shields Class, Telephone Pioneers and Habitat for Humanity Home Owners Association.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be submitted to Central United Methodist Church, Lauderdale Habitat for Humanity or the College or University of your choice.
