Nobody was injured in a Sunday afternoon vehicle chase that saw troopers pursue a father, with his small child, across the Lowndes-Oktibbeha county line and before it ended near Starkville.

A large Mississippi Highway Patrol presence could be seen on Highway 82 near the Highway 398 exit sometime around 4 p.m. Sunday and MHP later confirmed troopers had arrested 49-year-old Christopher Moore, of Vaughn after a chase on the highway.

Troop G spokesman Master Sgt. Criss Turnipseed said Moore is charged with felony fleeing, reckless driving, speeding and child restraint violation. He then said Moore’s two-year-old daughter was in the vehicle during the chase.

The child was not harmed during the chase and was taken from the scene by DHS.

Turnipseed said the chase started when Moore did not pull over when signaled by a trooper on Highway 82 near the airport exit in Lowndes County. Moore then traveled west before appearing to have stopped the vehicle near the Highway 389 exit.

Moore was transported from the scene to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center in Columbus. It is unclear when his next court date will be.

According to Mississippi Code § 97-9-72(2), felony fleeing where no party involved is injured carries a maximum prison sentence of five years, along with fines up to $5,000.
