Eupora edges Leflore County 23-22

Quarterback Edwin Herard scored on a pair of touchdown runs and the Eupora Eagles edged Leflore County 23-22 in a Class 2A, Region 2 game on Thursday night.

With the victory, the Eagles improved to 5-3 overall and evened their record mark at 1-1.

The second score by Herard was a 32-yard scramble with 11:50 remaining in the fourth quarter as Eupora stretched its lead to 23-14.

Leflore County closed the gap back to one point with 3:36 left in the game with a touchdown and two-point conversion, but it was not enough.

In the first quarter, Leflore County started strong and jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the 7:09 mark. The Eagles gained an 8-6 advantage with 5:47 showing on the clock on a 3-yard touchdown run by Preston Perkins and a two-point conversion pass from Jalan Potts to Abraham Hodges.

There was no more scoring in the first quarter, but Leflore County regained a lead at 14-8 with 10:22 left in the second quarter.

Herard put Eupora back on top with a 4-yard touchdown run at the 7:43 mark of the second quarter and that 15-14 lead stood at halftime.

The Eagles host Ray Brooks next week.
