Committing to the giving spirit of the holiday season, the We Care Committee has scheduled two separate food and supply drives for the Golden Triangle over Friday and Saturday.
Committee Director Luezarah Robinson said the organization will begin passing out a variety of items to elderly and disabled community members as well as low income families at its 826 Miss. Hwy. 45 Alternate North location in West Point.
âWeâre giving out assorted foods, drinks, fruits and candies,â she said. âWe are asking those who come present a proof of identification for address verification purposes.â
Robinson said the drive will also offer books to those in attendance.
âWe have novels this year,â she said. âWeâve also been giving leadership books out to schools from Oktibbeha, Webster, Noxubee and Lowndes counties for the children.â
Beginning in 2004 at the Truth Christian Center in Louisville and presently affiliated with House of Life on Old West Point Road, Robinson said the groupâs largest donations come from Feed the Children.
âWe have truckloads come every week,â she said. âWe know that the Lord will always make a way for us to help.â
Robinson said once items are received, workers inventory the shipment and pray over the goods to be given out in the community.
âThe prayer is us asking God how we can give out supplies properly,â she said. âWe want to give everything the right way and hope everyone is able to get something they need.â
Robinson said she is appreciative of the dedicated people who have assisted the WCC over the years to make its ministry what it is today.
âBetty Davis has been wonderful over the years,â she said. âWe also have a husband and wife team, Charles and Shirley Blair, who have been outstanding to work with.â
Robinson said while the WCC hosts more than one drive a year, the holiday season is a particularly important time to remember and be thankful for what individuals have in their lives.
âDuring the holidays, we try very hard to get out there and brighten peopleâs day and make supplements to what they have,â she said. âWe let the Lord lead us and we give out as much as we can.â
Robinson said she is excited about the two-day drive and hopes people support the WCCâs ministry.
âWhen people call me to ask what needs to be done and how they can help, it makes me feel good,â she said. âWe just want everyone to come and be blessed.â
The We Care Committeeâs food and supply drive is scheduled 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 826 Miss. Hwy. 45 Alternate North in West Point.
