A Starkville man was arrested on charges of statutory rape and child pornography Thursday afternoon.

The SPD arrested Lane Edward Clark, 22, for both felonies and a misdemeanor charge for the dissemination of sexually oriented materials to a minor.

A press release states the incidents occurred in September and October. SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said the incidents were reported to the SPD on Oct. 26, which is when the SPD investigation began. Lovelady said all three charges are related to the same victim who is a minor from Starkville and there are currently no additional suspects.

Court records obtained by the Starkville Daily News state the alleged rape occurred in Clark’s Starkville apartment. Court documents also say Clark is charged with the pornography count after receiving a video of the victim engaging in sexually explicit activity and the misdemeanor after sending an explicit picture of himself to the victim.

Clark could face up to $500,000 in fines and 40 years in prison if found guilty on the child pornography charge and could face up to $10,000 in fines and 30 years in prison for his statutory rape charge.

Clark was transported to the Oktibbeha County Jail at 7:20 p.m. Thursday night and was released on $11,000 bond at 10:33 p.m. Clark is scheduled to have his initial appearance in Starkville Municipal Court on Dec. 3.
