Success has usually gone the way of the East Webster Wolverines in football this season when they have gotten off to fast starts.

Keevon Patterson provided that for the Wolverines during last Friday's 35-6 victory over O'Bannon.

After East Webster stopped the run-heavy O'Bannon offense on the first series, Patterson returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown to put the Wolverines up 6-0.

"There was no one out there," Patterson said of what he saw on the return. "All I saw was green grass. The last one there was the punter so I had to make a move. I made the move and I scored."

East Webster used the momentum of Patterson's play to increased the lead to 21-0 at halftime.

"We were able to control the game from that point," Wolverine head coach Ron Price said. "His punt return really set the tone for the rest of the ballgame."

Patterson also caught an 8-yard touchdown and finished the game with five catches for 45 yards. He was selected OCH Regional Medical Center Athlete of the Week for his performance.

Price said Patterson is the type of player that likes to let his actions talk on the field.

"Keevon is a kid that's real quiet and keeps to himself," Price said. "He just shows up every day, does his job and leads us on Friday night by the way he plays football. He's just a real to himself kind of kid. Sometimes we don't even know he's around. Most of our opponents know he's around on Friday nights."

There is more to Patterson than what fans of East Webster see on the football field. Once the season ends, he will join the basketball team. Price also said Patterson is an A student in the class room.

"He's a quality kid from top to bottom," Price said.
