The streets of Starkville will be lit up in the holiday spirit for the annual Christmas Parade, which will begin tonight at 6 p.m.

The Starkville Police Department says Russell Street between Lampkin Street and Spring Street will be closed at 4 p.m. to begin parade lineup.

All motorists are asked to clear Main Street in the downtown area before 5 p.m.

The Partnership said the parade will feature the Famous Maroon Band, Mississippi State cheerleaders and dozens of floats from community businesses and organizations.

Starkville Mayor Lynn Spruill will serve as the parade’s grand marshal and expressed her excitement for the occasion.

“I am honored to have been asked,” she said. “This is one of those truly citywide events that brings all of our community together to celebrate the holiday season. Who doesn’t love a parade?”

Paige Watson, special events and projects coordinator at The Partnership, said the theme for this year’s parade is centered on the recent recognition given to Starkville by Mississippi Magazine as the “Best Place to Live” in Mississippi.

“I hope our community members and their families come out to enjoy and kickoff the holiday season in Starkville,” she said.
