The Greater Starkville Development Partnership will host its 46th Annual Holiday Bazaar beginning today Nov. 28 and Thursday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. at The Mill in Starkville.

More than 80 vendors will be present to get shoppers in the holiday spirit with Christmas gifts and home decor for the holiday.

“They all feature really unique locally crafted goods,” said Partnership interim CEO Jennifer Prather.

Specific vendors include Picture Mississippi by Kim Hunt, and J & M Entwined Designs.

Picture Mississippi will offer T-shirts, calendars and mugs, and J & M Entwined Designs will have Christmas candle scents.

“What’s really interesting about the Holiday Bazaar is that we have vendors come from all over,” Prather said.

Prather said Starkville vendors and retailers will be set up at the event, but they will also have vendors from Alabama, as well.

The Holiday Bazaar was an event that was created by Mississippi State University, but the university felt the Partnership would be a better fit to host it.

“We’ve been hosting it for about 10 years, and what’s really interesting about this event is not only is it just a great opportunity for us to bring people into town to do their Christmas shopping, but it’s in a very different setting,” she said.

Prather said shoppers who attend will find things they wouldn’t normally find in the typical retail setting.

In addition, the Partnership requires all vendors to pay sales tax into the city of Starkville.

“So it also creates an economic impact for our city through the collection of that sales tax,” Prather stated.

Last year, the event totaled more than $100,000 with all of the vendor revenue.

“The sales tax generated from that is a pretty significant contribution to our community,” she said.

This is the event’s second year at The Mill, so Prather anticipates that the turnout of shoppers will increase now that the community is more familiar with the conference center.
