Mississippi State women's basketball head coach Vic Schaefer wasn't surprised to see that senior guard Jordan Danberry was recognized for her efforts.

After averaging 21.5 points, six rebounds and getting nine assists over two games last week, Danberry was selected Southeastern Conference Co-Player of the Week.

"I knew she'd have a chance to be (SEC) Player of the Week," Schaefer said on Tuesday during a press conference. "The kid is putting in the time. She's reaping the benefits of what she's sown. She works hard in practice and had a great attitude in practice. She is really playing with a lot of energy every day and she's really fun to coach. I've really enjoyed her time here. She's pretty solid and pretty even keeled."

Danberry returned to her home state of Arkansas last Thursday and scored a career-high 26 points as the Bulldogs defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks 93-69. The Conway, Ark., native shot 11-of-21 from the field against Arkansas and almost had a double-double with another career-best of nine boards.

It was another good day for Danberry on Sunday during an 86-71 MSU victory over the nationally-ranked Kentucky Wildcats. She made 7-of-12 shot for 17 points and added five assists.

Danberry has enjoyed a good start to her senior season on the court. She has scored in double digits for 10-straight games and is sixth in the SEC with a 1.86 assist/turnover ratio and fifth in field goal percentage (53.5 percent).

Schaefer considers Danberry another point guard on the floor because she's had experienced with that.

"She played point in high school and she has that kind of mentality," Schaefer said. "She makes some good passes and I think her teammates enjoy playing with her."

Danberry and her State teammates remain home Thursday night when they host Georgia in an 8 p.m. tip.
