The Starkville Police Department is investigating a shooting death at a local apartment complex after officers responded to a shots fired call on Friday night and found the body of a deceased man in the driver's seat of a vehicle.

The department said in a press release that officers responded at about 10:08 p.m. to the call at West Main Arms apartments at the intersection of West Main Street and South Long Street. Once on the scene, officers found a man dead in the driver's seat of a car from an apparent gunshot wound.

The identity of the victim has not been released at this time, but the Starkville Daily News will have more updates as they come available.

Investigators could still be seen going to door to door at the apartment complex on Saturday morning, but it is unclear at this time exactly where the shooting occurred at the West Main Arms.

SPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Brandon Lovelady confirmed that no arrests had yet been made in the investigation, which is ongoing.
