Ward 5 Alderman Jeremiah Dumas has announced he is not running for a second term in the following statement emailed to Starkville Daily News.
"I would like to thank everyone for all the support over the last four years. Representing Ward 5 has been one of the most gratifying things that I have ever done. There have been challenges; some we have conquered, some have failed, and some are still working toward implementation, but I firmly believe that our efforts have set Starkville on a trajectory that will pay dividends through time.
"It is time that I yield the floor to others who are interested in continuing the betterment of Starkville, thus I will not be seeking a second term as alderman. The complete enjoyments of family, friends, and career are calling and I hope to be able to once again show them their due attention.
"Thanks again for the support."
