Perry Mullen Sr.

YORK HARBOR, Maine — Mr. Perry Wesley Mullen Sr. of Vero Beach, Fla. and longtime resident of Starkville, 90, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at North Springs United Methodist Church in Sandy Springs, Ga.
Burial will follow in Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Ga. with an informal reception to follow.
Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home of York, Maine is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Dec. 18, 1922 in Decatur, Ga., a son of the late Perry W. and Agnes (D’Andrea) Mullen. 
He graduated from Decatur Boys High School in 1939, attended Emory University and served in the United States Army on Okinawa in World War II. For 40 years while living with his family in Savannah, Tenn. and then Starkville, he was a Director and Vice President of Manufacturing for Garan Incorporated, the New York based apparel design and manufacturing company. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in both Savannah, Tenn. and Starkville.

Ever the adventurer, Perry hiked the Appalachian Trail, owned and piloted small airplanes and was an avid boater and fisherman, spending many of his last years living on a cruising boat, traveling the Atlantic coast from Nova Scotia to the Caribbean before settling in Vero Beach, Fla.

He leaves his wife of 21 years, Judith T. Mullen; a son, Perry W. Mullen Jr. of Richmond, Va.; five daughters, Maureen M. Clayton (Peter) of Cape Neddick, Maine, Jeanne Ann Davidson (George) of Athens, Ga., Deena Lynn Mullen of Los Angeles, Helen Christie Mullen (Patrick Waggoner) of New York City and Norda Ruth Mullen (Kelvin Cheatle) of London, England; a sister Jeanne Williams of San Francisco; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Nicholas and Christina Mullen, Max and Ian Clayton, and Sam Davidson. 

Mr. Mullen was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Helen Kalas Mullen of Starkville.
