UPDATE: Officials confirm 3 deaths from fire

January 10, 2013

Officials confirmed Thursday three people died during a Wednesday blaze, including a volunteer firefighter with District 5 Fire Department.
According to Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Department, the deceased are 92-year-old Celia Craig Robson, her grandson, 23-year-old Samuel Razi Morris and 48-year-old Geraldine Bradford Rice.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Robson and Morris resided at the house, which was declared a total loss. Rice, of 2210 Williams Road, was a former volunteer with District 5 Fire Department, Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said.
Rice was Robson's caretaker and was not called to the scene as a first responder, officials said.
According to an OCSD press release, it is believed Rice and Morris rescued Robson's husband, George, from the fire but were unable to get Celia Robson or themselves to safety.
Celia Robson was a physical therapist who worked at Mississippi State University from 1963-88. MSU dedicated a physical therapy suite on the third floor of the John C. Longest Student Health Center in her name in 1995. According to an archived MSU release, Robson was one of the first to practice physical therapy in Mississippi, holding the 26th license issued by the state. She was the first physical therapist in Oktibbeha County.
After retiring, Robson held a private practice at the residence, which had an indoor swimming pool.
East Oktibbeha County Fire Department members responded to the scene at 11:57 a.m. Wednesday to find the house in flames and were subsequently joined by members of District 5 and Oktoc Fire Departments as well as Bell Schoolhouse Fire Company.
According to the OCSD release, deputies, firemen, MSU police officers and officials from the Mississippi State Fire Marshal's office began a search of the property after the fire was gotten under control. The search continued into late Wednesday night and was called off at 11:30 p.m. due to smoke and hotspots. The deceased were located after the search resumed Tuesday morning.
