Dr. Rodney Wayne Waldrop, 61, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at his home in Starkville after a brave battle with cancer.Â
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Starkville with Rev. Chip Stevens officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at the church prior to services.
Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements.
He has been a local family practice dentist in Starkville for the last 34 1/2 years, along with his wife, Sandra, who practiced dental hygiene. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Starkville. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend.Â
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Smith Waldrop of Starkville; daughters, Dr. Rachel Waldrop Kennemur (Eli) of Starkville and Dr. Marla Evan Waldrop of Jackson; brothers, Dudley Joe Waldrop (Pam) and D.D. Waldrop Jr. (Denise), all of Starkville; nieces, Sara Waldrop of Starkville and Ashley Smith Davenport of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; nephews, Banks Waldrop and Reed Waldrop, both of Starkville, and Chris and Will Smith, both of Murfreesboro, Tenn.Â
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert Dever Waldrop Sr. and Dr. Odessa Cooper Waldrop of Starkville.Â
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Starkville Humane Society.Â
The family would like to convey their sincerest gratitude to the many friends, family and patients who have offered up their prayers of support and love to them throughout his illness.Â
Pallbearers will be Max Lyon, Harry Bell, David Wilson, Dr. Robert Rooks, Jeff Read, Bobby Hooks, Marion Booth, Clifton Fowler, Tommy Goodwin, Strat Karatassos, Banks Waldrop and Reed Waldrop.Â
