COLUMBUS â€“ The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers hit the 30-win mark on Tuesday night and it came against their rivals across the Tombigbee River.
Sallie Kate Richardson had 25 points as Starkville Academy defeated Heritage Academy 72-34.
The game was fairly close after the first quarter as the Lady Vols held a 12-9 lead, but SA outscored Heritage 23-11 in the second quarter to increase the advantage to 35-20 by halftime.
After three quarters, the Lady Vols began pouring it on 60-28.
Starkville Academy hit 28-of-62 shots from the field for 45 percent and held the homestanding Patriots to 26 percent (16-of-60).
The Lady Vols hit 12 free throws in 15 attempts, while Heritage missed all five of its opportunities from the charity stripe.
SA out rebounded the Lady Patriots 41-23.
Maggie Proffitt added 17 points for the Lady Vols, while Anna Lea Little also scored in double digits with 15 points. Little also pulled down 11 rebounds to complete a double-double.
No one for Heritage scored in double digits.
Starkville Academy dominated in the post by outscoring the Patriots 42-8 in the paint.
The Lady Vols and Vols host Jackson Prep on Friday.

COLUMBUS â€“ The Vols outscored the Patriots 7-0 in the second overtime and defeated their rival in thrilling fashion.
SA's Brandon Sharp hit a 3-point field goal in the final minutes of regulation to tie the game at 44-44.
The game was tied again at 49-49 after the first overtime and the Vols had the big second overtime.
"It was a big win against a rival," SA boys coach Mark Alexander said. "Or goal is to finish this season with a winning record and this helped us in doing that.
"We've been in so many close games this year. Being able to win like this was big for our guys."
The Vols improved to 14-12 overall.
Carnail Minor was the leading scorer for SA with 21 points, while Sharp added nine points.View more articles in:
