FLOWOOD – The Starkville Yellowjackets competed in the Class 4A-5A-6A State Tournament on Friday and finished seventh overall.
The event was held at Fannin Lanes in Flowood.
“We had an outstanding season,” SHS coach Jim Philamlee said. “I am real pleased with how things progressed.”
Each team fielded five bowlers and three alternates who bowled four games. The scores were then totaled and the top two teams faced off for the state championship.
SHS bowled a combined 757 during the first round, 835 in the second and ended its day bowling 894 and 853 in the third and fourth game respectively.
Ethan Tucker bowled 178, 179, 179 and 194 to finish his day as the leading Yellowjacket.
At the end of the day, the Yellowjackets team bowled a combined 3,339, just shy of the two leaders. Hancock County combined to bowl 3,855, while Olive Branch bowled 3,795 to place the two in a head-to-head match for the state title.
Once all bowling lanes were clear, Hancock County emerged as the State champions.
The SHS season may have come to a close on Friday, but Philamlee is excited as he looks towards the future of Yellowjacket bowling.
“We have no seniors leaving, so we should be strong next year,” Philamlee said.View more articles in:
