City employee faces embezzlement count, resigns

March 8, 2013

Starkville officials confirmed a former accounts receivable clerk for the city has resigned after an internal investigation involving the city and Starkville Police Department resulted in a felony charge of embezzlement.

Court records state Latonya Henderson is charged with embezzling $846 of city money on or about Feb. 1.

Officials declined further comment on the personnel matter.

Henderson was employed by the city for a total of 11 months — seven as a temporary employee and four months on a full-time basis.

Updates on the development will be published in Saturday's edition of SDN.
