The state Senate has passed the Starkville and Oktibbeha County school district consolidation bill in an amended form.
The amendment proposes the seven-member commission tasked with recommending how best to implement consolidation also be authorized to recommend that the Starkville-Oktibbeha County School District include territory in adjoining counties.
The Senate Education Committee approved a version of H.B. 716 that replaced language related to mandatory consolidation with establishment of the council.
More updates will be provided throughout the day and in Wednesday's edition of Starkville Daily News.
