City prepares for planned blackout

May 15, 2013

Starkville residents will be in the dark early Sunday morning as Tennessee Valley Authority works toward completing a $20 million transmission project.

The scheduled city-wide blackout will take place from 12:01 to about 5 a.m. Sunday while TVA and Starkville Electric Department add a second power source in Starkville. TVA spokesman Chris Stanley said this new power source would increase power capacity, as well as add redundancy to prevent future, unplanned blackouts.
