Garner gets to coach Jackets

June 11, 2013

Travis Garner

It has been almost 14 years since Travis Garner has called the Starkville area home, but that is all about to change.
After graduating from Starkville Academy in 1999 and heading off to college, Garner is returning to his former stomping grounds to assume the role of head baseball coach at Starkville High School.
“It is all about the opportunity that is there,” Garner said. “People talk about me coming home, but the truth is the job is a really good job. It’s a baseball community and they obviously want to win there. There is a lot of support for athletics and that is the major draw. It is a really good spot and I am excited to be there.”
The Starkville School District board approved Garner's hiring at Tuesday night's meeting.
