OMAHA, Neb. – Brett Pirtle somehow finds a way to reach base safely in just about every Mississippi State game.
The junior second baseman reached on a fielder's choice in the first inning in a 5-4 Bulldog victory over Indiana Monday night at the TD Ameritrade in the College World Series.
With the fielder's choice, the Tyler, Texas native has reached base safely in his last 41 games.
Pirtle's streak started back March 26 against Austin Peay.
Adam Frazier and Alex Detz both extended their reach base safely streaks to 20 games.
Frazier led off the game with a single to right field and Detz was hit by a pitch in his first at bat.
Demarcus Henderson kept his hit streak alive. The junior outfielder singled to right field in the top of the sixth. Hunter Renfroe singled up the middle in the ninth inning to move his hitting streak to nine games.
