Joyce Duke

Mrs. Joyce Pugh Duke, age 87, died Sunday, June 16, in Hermitage, TN after a brief illness. 

She was born in Mt. Olive, MS and graduated from Enid High School, Enid, MS.  She attended college at Northwest Junior College in Senatobia, MS.  Before the birth of her children, she was a teacher at Enid High where she taught typing and shorthand.  She was a GA leader, Sunday school teacher and Girl Scout leader for many years.  She was a member of many local clubs and did volunteer work. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Charles B. (C.B.) Duke and one daughter, Judy Duke McCollum (Stewart), her parents, Charles R. and Inez Miller Pugh and brothers, Charles Pugh and George Pugh. 

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Templeton (Terry) of Hermitage, TN and four grandsons, Thad Templeton (Angie) of Winston-Salem, NC, Marc McCollum (Katie) of Charlotte, NC, Ben McCollum (Kristin) of Charleston, SC and Brent Templeton (Sierra Vista, AZ).  She has seven great grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held at Welch Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-7 p.m.  The funeral will be held at Welch on Friday at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow at Oktibbeha Memorial Gardens.  Welch Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. 

She was a member of First Baptist Church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to First Baptist Church Starkville, Children’s Building Fund.
