Mudkatz, Pirates begin championship round with victories

The Mudkatz and Pontotoc Pirates got the championship round of Class AA off to a dominating start Friday afternoon with two convincing victories.
The Pirates defeated the Tribe 15-2, while the Mudkatz topped the PSA Blue Sox 14-1 in day two of the United States Specialty Sports 11-Under State tournament at the Starkville Sportsplex.
Pontotoc scored nine runs in the third inning of its game.
Whit Franklin had a double and a single for the Pirates, while Ross Matthews clubbed a triple and Clayton Matthews added a double for the other extra base hits.

The Mudkatz got off to a good start with seven runs in the first inning and capped off their victory with a five-run fourth frame.
Hayden Bell had two singles for the winners, while El'D Roby, Dawson Jones and Lucas Price had one single each.
Alex Brunni and Weslen Walker had one single each for the Blue Sox.
