OMAHA, Neb. – When John Cohen took over the Mississippi State baseball program, he knew he had an uphill battle in front of him.
Cohen was hired as the 16th head coach of the Bulldogs on June 7, 2008.Â
The former Bulldog player was taking over a club that finished 23-33 in 2008. In his five years as the Bulldog skipper, Cohen has put MSU back on the national stage culminating in a loss in the College World Series national championship to UCLA this week.
"Five years ago, we inherited a club that won 23 ballgames," Cohen said after the Bulldogs were swept by UCLA at TD Ameritrade Park. "They climbed all the way to the top and we didn't finish the deal. That's disappointing, but I'm certainly proud of our players. Many of these guys came to Mississippi State under pretty adverse conditions in a program that was not in great condition."
