Aldermen owe public an explanation

July 5, 2013

The new Starkville Board of Aldermen certainly made its mark in its first meeting on Tuesday, terminating Lynn Spruill after her eight years of service as the city's chief administrative officer.
In the 5-2 decision, led by Ward 1 Alderman Ben Carver — one of three carryovers from the former board — the board publicly eviscerated Spruill, adding to its requirements that she "have her desk cleaned out by 5 p.m." on Wednesday. Only Aldermen Jason Walker and Scott Maynard, of Wards 4 and 5, respectively, dissented.
