SMITH COLUMN: Area shows up very well in tournament

The future of baseball in this area looks bright.
While observing the final game of the Dizzy Dean 8-year-old South State Tournament on Tuesday, it became obvious that there are some pretty talented players emerging from the younger pool locally.
The Starkville Americans defeated Mathiston 11-6 in the championship game at McKee Park and it was the opinion of most that the best two teams were left standing at the end.
