Picture a baseball field full of cheers, a sky full of fireworks and boys with trophies in hand and that was exactly the scene Tuesday at McKee Park.
After defeating Mathiston 11-6, the Starkville American 8-year-old All-Stars captured the Dizzy Dean South State Championship.
“I think the fireworks scared a few people, but it was big and I am super proud of our boys,” Starkville Americans coach Charlie Williamson said. “I think it sunk in after the game was over and they were excited. Trophies are a big deal for those kids and it is good to see the hard work they put into something turn out the way it did.”
