Area Muslims focus on faith for holy month

Starting today and continuing for the next month, Rani Sullivan will go without eating or drinking for 16 hours at a time each day.

An associate professor of aerospace engineering at Mississippi State University, Sullivan said the only eating or drinking she would do would take place before sunrise and after dusk. At this time of year, she said, that meant fasting from about 4:30 a.m. until 8:10 p.m.
