Starkville Academy breaks through with 13-4 win

August 12, 2013

The deuces were wild at the Starkville Academy softball field Monday afternoon.
In the second inning, the score was tied 2-2 with two outs and the bases were loaded for the Lady Volunteers against the rival Oak Hill Lady Raiders.
Starkville Academy had actually loaded the bases with no outs to set up a golden opportunity to score runs, but two outs came and there were no runs to show for it yet.
Pitcher Karlie Lockhart decided to take matters in her own hands with a bases-loaded walk to help the Lady Vols take the lead. Starkville Academy went on to score five more times in the frame to go up 8-2 and ultimately won a 13-4 decision against Oak Hill in four innings.
Erin Linley had a two-run single, while Maridee Higginbotham and Mallory Barber had one RBI single each in the second inning as the Lady Vols took control of the game.
"We loaded the bases and got those two outs, but they got up there and hit," Starkville Academy coach Kayla Mosley said about her team's approach to the plate. "They didn't let that effect them mentally and they hit the ball. We got a few hits to fall, which we haven't been having. Sometime that is key."
