JACKSON – High school football fans who like to see points scored in great numbers did not get what they wanted Friday night from the Starkville Academy Volunteers.
The Vols played two 20-minute running quarters at the Jackson Academy jamboree and failed to score in either with 0-0 finals against Simpson Academy and Richland.
It was a situation where defenses dominated the action and the offenses for the respective teams played within the 30-yard lines. The Vols had three to four offensive drives per scrimmage.
The bright spot for SA was the defense and Tripp Janssen had a good night for tackles.
Noah Heflin broke a couple of nice runs from scrimmage for the Vols, but for the most part, there was no offense.
For the two scrimmages combined, the teams were estimated to have gained a total of 100 yards on offense.
Starkville Academy will officially open the season next Friday with a trip to play Lamar School.
