SMITH COLUMN: Jackets see good, bad in jamboree

There were times on Saturday night the Starkville Yellowjackets looked like a team that was reedy to open the season.
Those moments were few and far between.
Even though the Jackets defeated the New Hope Trojans 17-7 during a preseason jamboree hosted by the Trojans at Mississippi State's Davis Wade Stadium, they looked very sloppy in the process.
A series of penalties seemed to bog SHS down offensively and it had a hard time moving consistently on the New Hope defense.
