Letter to the Editor: Kindness among OCH staff and volunteers

August 30, 2013

With the many reminders in the SDN of the 40th anniversary of OCH, I would like to add my praise.

I extend my gratitude to Oktibbeha County Hospital. I’ve always been against selling it or merging it with a larger hospital, but my reasons have greatly increased. Back in January, my mother had an 11-day stay there. We met all sorts of staff members and were amazed at their helpful attitudes and their professionalism. One man, who appeared to be in maintenance, hurried after us and offered me a wheelchair ride since I was on crutches then. It didn’t matter that I wasn’t a patient; he pushed me all the way to my mother’s room. That thoughtfulness was shown repeatedly. We had to return with my mother a few months later for a six day stay and saw the same level of professionalism.
