Mississippi State lost more than a ballgame on Saturday in Houston, Tex.
The Bulldogs left the Advocare Texas Kickoff Classic on the wrong side of a 21-3 score to Oklahoma State and a handful of injuries.
Senior starting quarterback Tyler Russell left in the third quarter after taking a knee to the head. Junior starting strong safety Jay Hughes was injured in the first half and did not return.
Russell's status is in question this week and Hughes is done for season.
"I'd say Tyler is going to be doubtful for this week," MSU head coach Dan Mullen said at his weekly Monday press conference. "We'll see at the end of the week. (He had) just the concussion from that game. We don't expect him to practice this week. If he might be cleared for the game, we'll make that decision.
"Hughes has a torn Achilles. He's going to have surgery and he's going to be out for the whole year, which is a huge loss for us."
