SMITH COLUMN: Credit to SA for bouncing back for win

September 3, 2013

The football players and coaching staff at Starkville Academy are to be commended.
It would have been very easy for the Volunteers to lose focus after starting the season with a 35-3 loss to a pretty good Lamar School squad.
Instead of hanging their head and feeling sorry for themselves, the SA players and coaches went back to work and put the disappointing defeat behind them.
The Vols responded in a positive way and knocked off East Rankin Academy 28-7 at home in the second game of the season.
With a veteran coach like Jeff Terrill, who has experienced football at different levels, it's not surprising that Starkville Academy was able to bounce back from a tough opener to have success.
There will be more challenges this season for the young group of Vols, but it's nice to see them get a win under their belts early.
